Weak In The Knees: The Audreys

Image Via: Here

You wouldn't think Australia and bluegrass would go hand in hand, but The Audreys are proving that they meld harmoniously together like pickles and popcorn (don't knock it till you tried it).  I know what you are thinking, "bluegrass again, really Amber?," but hear me out, this is bluegrass lite (think Iron & Wine, but instead of wine its whiskey and instead of an acoustic guitar its a banjo).  The band, originally a quintet, now consists of velvet voiced singer Taasha Coates and resident string-plucker Tristan Goodall who have birthed a sleepy folk sound with a twang edge.  Their tunes aren't gonna be the ones you throw on to get a party started on a summer day, but if a storms a brewing these are the songs you want playing in the background while you gaze out your blinds onto the rain soaked streets outside.

Hugs,
Amber

  1. Aretha Franklin might have sung:

Looking out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
Until a band called The Audreys came
And set my soul on fire.

This is music to my ears, Amber Bluegrass...
uh... I mean Amber Blue Bird...
uh... I mean Amber Girly Bird!

I absolutely LOVE this mix of the light and the heavy in the bluegrass category. It reminds me of the late 60s heavy metal band Iron Butterfly, an experimental blend of gentle melodies and unexpected intensity.

How 'bout you and me and Steve McQueen hop in a vintage Caddy convertible, put the hammer down and go on a road trip?

Special announcement: It's an election year, dear friend. (I looked it up.) For the first time, I am taking a political stand on my blog. Please come read my new post and let me know you and I are on the same "team." Gracias, mucho gusto!
