Weak In The Knees: The Dragtones

 Image Via: Here

When people refer to rock'n'roll as "devil's music" they probably have The Dragtones' tunes in mind.  This quintette is a mash up of boys from other, much more recognizable bands (ie The Hives, The Hi Winders, etc) that have come together to create throwback rockabilly music with a punk edge or as the band puts it "nuclear powered musical molotov cocktail" (same thing).  When I first laid my ears on their music I had visions of Johnny Depp in the classic film "Cry Baby" wooing sweet little Allison into joining him and the "drapes" down a dangerous path where people bathe in their front yards and wear cone bras like they're going out of style (if you have no idea what I am talking about, just watch the film and thank me later).  It was with that imagery in mind that I let Luis Arriaga's classical vocals direct my hips into a full blown shimmy while jamming out to their work.  Take a listen for yourself, but beware the music may cause dirty dancing, hot pants wearing, and pretend ciragrette smoking.  You've been warned.

Hugs,
Amber

  1. This is the devil's music, Amber Girly Bird, and no good will come of it! I love this rip roaring, wild and wooly brand of Psychobilly. The Dragtones sound like the unholy love child produced by the mating of Jerry Lee Lewis and the B-52s. This stuff will provide the perfect background this weekend as I sit in my lawn chair wearing hot pants and cone bra, gorging myself on Hostess Twinkies, chain smoking Phillies Cheroots, consuming mass quantities of rotgut tequila and experiencing my non-stop, 48-hour John Waters/Quentin Tarantino film festival. Your weekend will surely pale in comparison, but please have a good one anyway, dearie!

  9. Op-op-op, she strikes again with her impeccable taste! Wow, saying something like "op-op-op" makes sense in my head but typed... not so much. I also have to add that I always daydream about going back in time and being a bad girl or a "drape".
