Weak In The Knees: Covers

Image Via: Here

This post is coming to you from the past (what, whoa).  I had originally planned to post these tunes last Friday to help you get through my absence, but the wifi gods were not on my side so they are coming your way today (better late than never).  Its a simple playlist featuring a mash up of some stellar cover tunes.  We've got Ray LaMontagne putting his spin on Gnarls Barkey's hit "Crazy" to Au Revoir Simone paying homage to the great David Bowie and his diddy "Oh! You Pretty Things."  There is something in this mix for everyone and if for some reason you can't find one song that tickles your fancy then we should sit down and have a serious talk about the fact that you have sh*t for brains.  Whoa, did I just say sh*t on my blog?  Its been a long week friends, a very long week.

Hugs,
Amber

  1. Something for everyone, Amber Girly Bird? I don't think so! I was hoping for at least one selection from my youth such as "Battle Hymn of the Republic." That said, I love what you do offer here. The Bird and the Bee did a beautiful job of covering the Bee Gees with "How Deep is Your Love." The Beatles' "Sleeping" is one of my all time faves and this Vines version is exciting and doesn't stray far from the original. "Run For Your Life," another great song by the Liverpool Mop Tops, is covered nicely by Cowboy Junkies. You'd have to be "Crazy" not to love the Kills' killer kover of the Patsy Cline classic. More Beatles memories brought back to life in outstanding fashion by Fiona Apple with her cover of "Across the Universe." Another flashback favorite from my 60s heyday is this eerie interpretation of "People Are Strange" originally by the Doors. "Wild Horses" (live) brings back memories of the hit by Mick & His Merry Mates. Wow, Amber, this was a great playlist! Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!

  2. Omg I loved that Wild Horses cover, but then again, Iron & Wine can make any song so magical and their own. And I am a big-time Rolling Stones fan, so yes, they owned it. That song will always mean so much to me, simply because of the way it makes me feel so thoughtful and nostalgic and completely in my own world when I hear it.........I'm no kidding about to pour myself a glass of cabernet and listen to it on repeat.

I really appreciated The White Stripes cover, too! These were all really cool. Some way better than others. And I almost forgot - that People Are Strange cover was damn good. Hauntingly good.
Okay I'm done. Have a great weekend, sister!

  4. Oh wow, so many goodies on here! I think my favorite was The Kill's cover of Crazy, and the Hot in Herre cover is absolutely priceless. It reminds me a bit of Emily Well's cover of Juicy! I don't know what it is about bluesy white girls covering rap songs, my ears just love it.

  10. omg. I LOVE this post. I am such a sucker for covers especially if they're better than the originals. I love Fiona Apple's _Across the Universe_. ACtually, I like all her covers. so I may be super biased. ;)
