Corgis Are People Too

I, like a billion other folks, plopped myself in front of the tube this past Friday to bear witness to the 2012 Olympic ceremonies directed by the brilliantly creative Danny Boyle.  I knew beforehand that I had to clear my mind of all images from China's Olympic opening extravagance as there was no way in hell this ceremony could be that cool, but even with my expectations lowered I was still left in a state of "uh?".  If I understood everything correctly then England was actually birthed from the depths of Mordor, the surplus of sick children means that they have to sleep two to a bed, Mary Poppins has become the latest successful cloning subject, and the newest iPhone has an app for time travel (works for me).  All kidding aside, I thought Boyle did a fine job.  It can't be easy trying to coordinate a show like that, I just would have preferred some more pizazz (insert jazz hands).  You know, a few fire throwers, maybe a giant replica of Big Ben that shoots out fireworks in the shapes of all the Harry Potter characters, McCartney performing with a John Lennon hologram....not that I've given this a lot of thought or anything.

  1. If smart shopping, looking fab and giving us the giggles were all Olympic events then surely you'd bring home three gold medals for Team USA, Amber Girly Bird. I love this yellow and red combo and Kevin earns at least a bronze for placing his pretty subject in front of a weather beaten train car. If you're taking requests I'd relish pics of you hoisting a few (and dancing) at the nearby hobo camp. Have a great week, dear friend Amber!

  3. I thought Danny Boyle did a good job overall. There were some slow moments, but I was impressed. But not as impressed as I was at the size of the Queen's Corgis. Wow.
    Rad jeans :)

  4. I was sort of disappointed with the ceremonies. I liked the idea of highlighting the NHS (certainly one of the things that's best about Britain) but I wasn't so sure about the execution. Oh well. Switching gears, I love this colour blocked look on you!

  12. Your thoughts on the opening ceremony are my thoughts exactly- mostly confused, but I thought he did an okay job overall, considering what he was up against!
