Over the weekend, I stepped into my DeLorean and gunned it to '89 when I was just a fresh faced kiddo with a scrunchy in my hair and dirty Keds on my feet. Said time travel was accomplished by a hundredth viewing of the classic tale of over-privileged prissy tweens who just want to fit in with their fellow wilderness campers and get their patch on. If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you are probably much younger than me and therefore on my sh*t list, but if you are currently humming the "Cookie Time" song to yourself then high five me cause we are totally old farts with fantastic taste in eighties movies. It was upon this weekend's viewing of Troop Beverly Hills (the movie that birthed "glamping") that I realized 1. I really need to get a life and 2. this movie is filled to the brim with important life lessons. For example, the classic dance moves never go out of style, despite what your fancy hairstylists says perms are never a good idea, to many accessories clutter an outfit, and if anyone ever asks your parents as always in Monte Carlo. Lessons learned Troop Beverly Hills, lessons learned.

I missed you yesterday, Amber Girly Bird, and went through an agonizing withdrawal. I shivered, shook, sweated, threw up three times and peed myself. Finally, I got my fix by watching your sticky bun tutorial. I'm glad you're back from another weekend safe and sound, dearie!
ReplyDeleteWe almost had a match because I spent my weekend watching Camp Beaver Stew 1, 2 and 3. The cast of Troop Beverly Hills is like a who's who of classic TV shows. It brought together Shelley Long from Cheers, Craig T. Nelson from Coach, Betty Thomas from Hill Street Blues, Mary Gross from SNL, Kellie Martin who played Becca on Life Goes On, and Edd "Kookie" Byrnes from 77 Sunset Strip who, along with Connie Stevens, had a hit in 1959 with the novelty record "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)." NOW who's old?
I LOVE that movie and I am a little jealous you watched it recently. you also look great in stripes, and lovely pairing with the floral scarf!

I love that movie! There was a stretch in my childhood where it seemed to get played on TV every three weeks, and my sister and I were FASCINATED by it. We were both big on Girl Scout Camp, and every summer there was always at least one girl in our group who was *very* Troop Beverly Hills!
ReplyDeleteLoving the casual outfit. The accessories make it way more than jeans and a tee, and I find myself envying your knowledge of how to wear summer scarves!
I used to watch that movie ALL the time at my cousin's house! I haven't seen it in such a long time though... Guess I know what I'll be watching later this week! :-)
ReplyDeleteI swear, I was like obsessed with that movie when I was a kid - I had totally forgotten about it until you just reminded me. So thanks for that!

I've never seen it! But I will say you're doing one of my favourite style things here which is mixing floral and stripes!

you are just the cutest! i love the stripes and florals.
ReplyDeletei would also always prefer to camp in a hotel room rather than in the woods.
Haha omg, I haven't seen Troop Beverly Hills in so long, I'm really questioning why I don't own it on dvd. I love and still love Shelley Long. This is a really cute outfit, I adore the purse.

what a great outfit! stripes and scarves and straw, oh my! i never saw 'troop beverly hills,' but i'm an oldie myself. i was just cut off from most of pop culture during my formative years (wah-wahhh).
ReplyDeleteAmber, I love this xxx such prettiness <3
ReplyDeleteOnce again, another reason why we are bffs in my mind. Wait, that makes me sound creepy.
ReplyDeleteOh my god I love that movie so much. I also love that Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley is Shelley Long's daughter in that movie. And cookie time is indeed a wonderful song - in a gets-stuck-in-your-head so it must be good sort of way.
ReplyDeleteI don't know this movie, but maybe because it's got another title in Italian? btw your outfit is gorgeous, I will copy it!
ReplyDeleteI love this nautical look on you! And heyyy, I found a similar little wicker bag at the thrift store while I was in Big Tex! I've worn the shit out of it so much that the damn thing is coming undone in some parts and scratches the fuck out of me. Luckily I only paid $1.50 for it.
ReplyDeleteDude, you know I've seen that damn movie about the same amount of times as you!! I LOVED it as a kid!! Ahhh, memories of when I had better skin.
