This Has Been My Best Day Of All Time

Since summer seems to be on its way out, Kevin and I decided that a little hookey playing was in order so we could soak in the last of the good weather days.  On Friday we both called in sick (cough cough), topped our jeep with the in-law's canoe, and hightailed it to a local lake armed with sandwiches and my new favorite app instagram.  I instagramed that whole dam lake and then some until Kevin asked for his phone back so he could make a work related phone call (he ruins everything).  After getting our fill in nature we turned our attention to our much neglected kiddie pool and stewed in that lukewarm water till we looked like a white version of the California Raisins.  Our day ended with a pizza delivery followed by an indie flick, namely Son of Rambow which tells the tale of a schoolboy bully who befriends a rather shy fellow classmate and the two embark on creating an amateur film based on the eighties gem Rambo: First Blood.  The plot line is odd, I know, but it was a delight to watch and had me in tears as the closing credits rolled.  Every Friday should be like this.

  1. Good morning, Amber Girly Bird! You look great in that skirt, blouse and jacket combo and I appreciate Kev's idea of placing you in front of a weather beaten door.

    Speaking of weather beaten... your attire is perfect for the hurricane party I’m hosting today. COME ON DOWN...the big fun has just begun. The wind’s whipping, the rain’s blowing sideways and a cow just flew past my window. So pack your bags, wing it to Florida and join the festivities. Here’s a check list of things to bring along:

    * mass quantities of liquor
    * a box of Dutch Masters blunts
    * an assortment of salty snacks
    * minimum 30 hours worth of groovy tunes.

    Think of it! We’ll have loads of fun hunkered down in my closet riding out the storm, playing Chinese checkers, telling ghost stories and reading Nancy Drew mysteries by flashlight. A great time is guaranteed!

    Seriously, dear friend, hurricanes and tornados are a fact of life in the South as you recall from your years in Texas. If you ever publish a post and I don’t show up to comment, please know it’s because I got hit hard by a storm and I’m dealing with a power outage, damage, flooding, clean-up, etc. Looks like the worst is over for my area and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi. Have a super day, sweetie!

  12. i love your outfit! i recently joined instagram and i'm having a hard time not instagramming every single thing i see. it's ridiculous. i have it on my ipod, so i have to use the wifi from chris' phone to post when we're in a wi-fi-less area, and like the killjoys husbands can sometimes be, he turns it off before i'm finished posting pictures because he says he needs to conserve his battery :\

  29. Gah, I accidentally closed out of my last comment! Hookey days are some of the best days ever aren't they? I love lakes although after watching 'River Monsters' I think I'd be super paranoid the entire time, hohum, giant fish can suck it. I added you on instagram, I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures! I love this skirt, what a great color.

  31. I hope your co-workers don't read your blog!
    But that does sound like the best day ever! And what the fudge? You have IG and you didn't find me?! Grrrr. I'll look your ass up. I love IG! I always want to IG everything but have to restrain myself. For example, Mikey and I discovered a new grocery store. It took all the will power in the world not to IG pictures of their red velvet whoopie pies in their cute packaging, or their awesome free bread and oil station (white balsamic is amazeballs if you haven't tried it!), and their cheese section! Oh, their cheese section! I tried a few different kinds of goat cheese - I'm sort of an addict. I could go on. I just loved it so much. Especially when we strolled through the alcohol section and every bottle just had my mouth watering.
    Anywho, I love your outfit. I was so upset with myself for not picking up a jean jacket this summer to wear with cute girly stuff like this. I should just have kept my wanna be Guess jean jacket from the 80's. It was the bomb.
