Freebies

Recently I read a blog wherein the lady writer made the point that she feels angered in a way by fellow bloggers who don't properly notify their readers that certain pieces from their outfits have been given to them by companies for free.  I'm telling you this because while I agree to a point with this blogger, I also think its important for readers to be aware that bloggers won't always blatantly point out that an article of their outfit was a freebie.  In a lot of incidents we will simply include a "c/o" distinction in our outfit specs.  At least that is the case with me when a) the company has not requested a written review or b) I've already worn the item numerous times on my blog.  Today's post, however, will include a blatant shout out to OASAP for sending me yet another trendy gem to share with you, namely the below fringe bag that has stolen my closeted hippie heart.  You see for as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be one of those carefree, flower headband wearing, "haven't washed my hair in weeks" vagabonds, but my straitlaced tendencies always squash that dream.  This bag, however, allows for my inner flower child to bust through without running amok.  Its a happy comprise and wildly awesome purse and yes it was free, but its freeness has had no influence on my own positive review.  I have standards people and they're pretty high especially when it comes to fashion, ice cream, and booze.  Like if you ever try to slip McCormick vodka in my drink or serve me store brand ice cream or pass off a pleather bag as cute, I will cut you out of my life.  Period.

  1. Love your shaggy bag, Amber Girly Bird, and glad to know you're getting in touch with your inner flower child. Apart from your beauty and groovy threads what I like best about these pictures is the setting. It's been 132 years since I've seen fall leaves up close and personal and that stone wall combined with the yellow autumn splendor above and behind you produced two marvelous compositions. Kevin, you did it again, my fiend. Have a wonderful week ahead, both of you!

  2. aah, the last sentence was beautiful. i do love a good freebie, but get very bored when bloggers have 'c/o' written on every single item in practically every post. it's like, i get it, companies love you. jeez.

  10. That is a very excellent fringe bag!
I feel like the whole getting things for free is a tricky road to walk, you don't want anyone getting angry at you for being dishonest or feel like you've sold out if you've got outfit details chock full of 'c/o' but this is a blog. It's a hobby and I think it's wonderful to embrace every freebie you can.

  12. first, I LOVE that bag and have also, many times, thought about just being an unwashed yet somehow still cool hippie. just love it. second, I'm in love with your last few lines of this post! standards are very important and booze, ice cream and fashion should always be set with a high bar to meet. you are awesome.

  13. That bag is gorgeous. And I don't think I even have enough hippie in my soul to pull it off, but I'll still stare and be envious.

  15. you're looking like a stylish cowgirl with the tassels, boots and denim!

I personally have no problem with bloggers not writing what items have been given to them within the body of the post, I think writing c/o is absolutely fine. I do have a problem with people not signifying that a post is sponsored when it clearly is. Stick to your guns Amber!

  19. I love your outfit, sponsored bag or not.
    Which I totally love btw.

I am not to bothered by ppl writing if they are sponsored or not, I trust myself to be able to make my own decisions regardless. Although I always try to remember to specify it if I am given some freebies :)

  21. Listen, if I got free stuff.. I would be ALL OVER IT. All over it.

  22. I figure so long as we keep our integrity by not just grabbing any old free shit we're offered and only choosing stuff we actually like, it's all good. Although the first time anyway I feel like it should be specified c/o. Anyway, rocking outfit! Those are exactly the kind of boots I'm looking for!

  25. That bag was made for you, Amber! You look like the hippest 70's babe in that top photo. I am taken away with the beauty of those golden leaves!! Perfect place to photograph a pretty face....and bad ass bag! (I'm with you on the inner hippy but can't go a whole week without washing my hair - wait a minute...I guess I sorta do that when I wear my hair straight, but curly? Don't even think about it. Two days tops and after that my mane looks like a freakin' road kill nest. What ever that means.)

P.s. Mikey and I are down for a hang out sesh during that time period I gave you. Before or after Thanksgiving, however it works out. Just talk about it with Kevin and we'll figure this awesome shet out. :D
