Tender Morsols

Its usually around this time that my inner grungy teenager starts to emerge and my outfits go from vibrant flouncy girlishness to wannabe Kate Moss cool.  To say I am still working on perfecting that effortlessly hip vibe is an understatement, but hopefully sometime before I hit my deathbed I'll be able to say I mastered the art of dressing soft grunge chic.   Speaking of deathbeds, I recently finished the novel Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan and while I do not like speaking ill of an artist's work I must say I flat out HATED this book.  Kevin actually noted that I looked visibly angry while trying to finish this story.  I knew going into the novel that the storyline dealt with some harsh realities, specifically rape and incest and though those topics left me with a sense of ickyness, it was the author's style of writing (or overwriting) that had me grinding my teeth wondering when this book would just end already.  Tender Morsels had all the components of a Girly Bird favorite, fantasy themed: check, cool cover art: double check, Neil Gaimen seal of approval: check check check, but nothing could save this book from being a big ole flop in my eyes. Oh well, I did learn and thus have added the term "trumpeting fart" to my vocabulary so at least it wasn't a complete waste of time.

  5. I LOVE your blazer and your hat and your bag and your shoes, okay I just love this outfit. I agree with Tom, your outfit to me seems 80s inspired, but only good 80s! I'm so happy to hear you got through the storm with greater ease than you had expected! It's absolutely horrible seeing the damage that's been done. I may complain about Ireland a lot but I'm so thankful we don't get hurricane's here!!

Also, that book really does sound God awful! My condolences!

  14. Seriously? The phrase "trumpeting fart" was written in a book you read? No wonder you hated it. On a more important subject however, I think you have dressing hip down to a science. Not just anyone can pull of a polkadot blazer, but yours is awesome.

  18. Love your outfit!! And I can't stop pondering what context the phrase "trumpeting fart" was used in that book, but I don't think I'm brave enough to try to find out first-hand. :-P
