Its usually around this time that my inner grungy teenager starts to emerge and my outfits go from vibrant flouncy girlishness to wannabe Kate Moss cool. To say I am still working on perfecting that effortlessly hip vibe is an understatement, but hopefully sometime before I hit my deathbed I'll be able to say I mastered the art of dressing soft grunge chic. Speaking of deathbeds, I recently finished the novel Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan and while I do not like speaking ill of an artist's work I must say I flat out HATED this book. Kevin actually noted that I looked visibly angry while trying to finish this story. I knew going into the novel that the storyline dealt with some harsh realities, specifically rape and incest and though those topics left me with a sense of ickyness, it was the author's style of writing (or overwriting) that had me grinding my teeth wondering when this book would just end already. Tender Morsels had all the components of a Girly Bird favorite, fantasy themed: check, cool cover art: double check, Neil Gaimen seal of approval: check check check, but nothing could save this book from being a big ole flop in my eyes. Oh well, I did learn and thus have added the term "trumpeting fart" to my vocabulary so at least it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Have a fabulous Wednesday, dear friend. I am so glad you survived the wrath of Frankenstorm.
"Trumpeting fart?" Now that sounds interesting (sorry about the crappy read though). On a brighter note, I love your shoes and that blazer is super cute.

Love your look, don't think I'll love that book though. Pass!
ReplyDeleteoh, i think you have totally mastered this look, and i love the effect of the graffiti garage backdrop. Bummer about the book, sounds intense.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blazer and your hat and your bag and your shoes, okay I just love this outfit. I agree with Tom, your outfit to me seems 80s inspired, but only good 80s! I'm so happy to hear you got through the storm with greater ease than you had expected! It's absolutely horrible seeing the damage that's been done. I may complain about Ireland a lot but I'm so thankful we don't get hurricane's here!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that book really does sound God awful! My condolences!

i commend you for even finishing it at all. it's rare, but i have been known to stop reading a book mid-way through. i love your cute and grungy look!
ReplyDeleteYou make a little grunge look good.
ReplyDeleteI Love this outfit! I think you pulled off the vibe you were going for perfectly! Coming from the girl who dresses like that almost everyday! And sorry that book sucked so much... I hate when they do that.
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing pretty well with your grunge chic, and you can pull it off better than I, who just feels like a poser.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about the book... yeah, those topics sound a bit icky...
grunge on, pretty lady. grunge ON.

ReplyDeleteyour blazer is to die for <3 and agreed ^
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit sad about the book. The outfit is great, I just adore the blazer. :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously? The phrase "trumpeting fart" was written in a book you read? No wonder you hated it. On a more important subject however, I think you have dressing hip down to a science. Not just anyone can pull of a polkadot blazer, but yours is awesome.

Love your outfit!! And I can't stop pondering what context the phrase "trumpeting fart" was used in that book, but I don't think I'm brave enough to try to find out first-hand. :-P
ReplyDeleteLove that blazer!
